A 99.9% SLA allows approximately 43.8 minutes of downtime per month, or 8 hours 45 minutes per year. Each additional "nine" reduces allowed downtime dramatically: 99.99% (four nines) allows only 4.38 minutes per month, and 99.999% (five nines) allows just 26.3 seconds per month.
