A project brief is a concise document that defines a project's objectives, scope, timeline, team roles, and success metrics. It aligns everyone involved before work begins, prevents scope creep, reduces miscommunication, and gives stakeholders a single reference point throughout the project.

A project brief is a higher-level strategic document that covers the "why" and "what" of a project. A scope of work (SOW) is more detailed and operational, covering the "how" with specific deliverables, tasks, and acceptance criteria. The brief informs the SOW — write the brief first, then expand into a detailed SOW.
