FAQ

How do I calculate a discounted price?+

Discounted price = original price x (1 - discount% / 100). For example, a $100 item at 25% off = $100 x 0.75 = $75.

How do I find the discount percentage from a sale price?+

Discount % = ((original price - sale price) / original price) x 100. If an item was $80, now $60: ((80-60)/80) x 100 = 25%.

What is margin impact?+

Margin impact shows how a discount affects your profit. If you provide your cost, the calculator shows your new margin percentage after the discount is applied.

When should I offer discounts?+

Discounts should be strategic — to close deals near end-of-quarter, move stale inventory, or win competitive situations. Avoid habitual discounting as it erodes brand value and margins.

What discount is too much?+

Any discount that drops your margin below your cost of goods sold is too much. Generally, keep discounts under 20% for premium products and ensure you still cover variable costs.
