LinkedIn message templates
12 short templates for each point of a LinkedIn sequence. Replace the words in square brackets, keep the placeholders in braces, and make each one sound like you.
Free to copy. We wrote them for this page; we quote no reply rates because we have measured none.
Connection notes
Sent with the invitation. Up to 300 characters on a paid LinkedIn account and 200 on a free one. A blank note is fine too.
Same market, no pitch
You sell to their kind of company and want them to recognise your name later.
Hi {first_name}, I work with [type of company] in [region] and came across your work at {company}. Happy to connect and follow what you share.
After one of their posts
They posted something you actually read. Name the one point that stayed with you.
Hi {first_name}, your post on [topic] made me rethink [one specific point]. I'd like to follow your work. Glad to connect.
Same event
You were both at the same event, in person or online.
Hi {first_name}, we were both at [event]. I'd like to stay in touch with people from it. Happy to connect.
Founder to founder
You both run small companies in the same field.
Hi {first_name}, I run [your company], a small team working on [what you do]. Always good to know other founders in [industry]. Happy to connect.
First message after they accept
Goes once they accept. One reason for writing, one question, no attachment.
Thanks, and one question
You want to learn how they work before you say what you sell.
Thanks for connecting, {first_name}. Can I ask how {company} handles [the problem you solve] today? It's what we work on at [your company], and I'm trying to understand how teams like yours do it.
Offer something useful
You have a short guide, checklist or note that helps their role.
Thanks for connecting, {first_name}. I put together a short note on [topic] for people in [their role]. Want me to send it? It's a page long and there's nothing to sign up for.
Direct and short
You'd rather say what you do and let them decide.
Thanks for accepting, {first_name}. To be direct: we help [type of company] with [outcome]. If that's ever on the list at {company}, I'm happy to show how it works. If not, no problem at all.
Follow-ups
Only if they have not replied. Dewx stops writing to a person after two messages with no reply.
A gentle second message
A week or so after your first message, with no reply.
Hi {first_name}, bringing this back up in case it got buried. If the timing is wrong, I'll leave it there.
Closing the loop
Your last message. Say you will stop, then stop.
Hi {first_name}, I won't keep writing. If [the problem] comes up at {company} later, my inbox is open.
People you are already connected with
For people who accepted long ago and never heard from you.
Connected, never talked
They accepted a while ago and you have never written.
Hi {first_name}, we've been connected for a while but never spoken. I'm working on [what you do] for [type of company] and {company} came to mind. Is it worth a short chat, or not a fit right now?
They started a new role
LinkedIn shows they changed jobs or titles recently.
Hi {first_name}, congratulations on the new role as {title}. The first months usually bring a long list. If [the problem you solve] is on it, I'm happy to share what's worked for others. If not, good luck with it.
InMail
For people who have not accepted. It needs Premium or Sales Navigator and uses your InMail credits.
Asking for the right person
You are not sure they own the problem.
Hi {first_name}, we're not connected, so I'll keep this short. I work with [type of company] on [problem]. Is this something you look after at {company}, or is there someone better to ask? Thanks either way.
Before you send
Check a note with the free connection note checker, and build your list with the free Sales Navigator search builder. LinkedIn is a trademark of LinkedIn Corporation; Dewx is independent and not endorsed by it.
What are the words in braces?
Placeholders. Dewx fills {first_name}, {last_name}, {full_name}, {company}, {title} for each person. Other tools may use other names.
What are the words in square brackets?
Parts only you can write: your market, your company, the problem you solve. Replace them before you use a template.
Which one works best?
We have not measured these words, so we will not quote a reply rate. Pick the one that sounds like you, make it about the person, and keep it short.
Can I copy them from here?
Yes. They are free to use and edit.
